Galentine’s Day is FIERCE

Leslie Knope, the originator of Galentine’s Day on Parks and Recreation, was on to something big. We

think almost every holiday should have a GAL version. Anniversaries for promotions, graduations,

elections, that time we (figuratively) throat punched the dude (I think his name was Chad) in sales. Good

Friday for Gals every April regardless of when Easter falls! Galsgiving! Basically, we want to double up

all the holidays for GIRL POWER.

Being a gal is an honor. Being a gal is amazing. Being a gal is also hard as hell and seemingly getting

more difficult by the day. We won’t get into statistics while discussing our Gal holidays – but you real

ones know the real deal. I took my daughter and three of her friends out for Galentine’s last weekend

which is what inspired this whole notion. The amount of excitement, positivity, energy and fun was

contagious. Girls and women in a group celebrating each other is POWERFUL AF.

We simply have to do it more often – very regularly. I know we are all tired with all the thingz but it is

worth it. Life is short we have to make the effort for each other, our friends, our colleagues and the

next generation. The power of our friendships will grow exponentially and that’s where the real power

lies. Women friendships, regardless of the number I have, are the definition of empowerment. They

remind me who I am, what is important and why I’m out here smashing my head against the relentless

glass ceiling. There is no question, that in male dominated worlds where many of us spend most of our

day, the bonds between the few women we see are vital to our collective success.

Sam Maggs, the author of “Girl Squads: 20 Female Friendships that Changed History” believed that

particularly during periods of racial and gender inequality there are key lessons to learn about how

women supported each other, because “no one is successful on their own, and especially with women,

the more we work together, the stronger we are.”

Here are a few ideas of things to do as we start our Galidays!

1. DIY Wine Tasting

2. Vision Board Party – great idea for December heading in to a new year!

3. Sweatpants, popcorn and short movie party – low effort, big reward

4. Journaling session – get together anytime and each commit to a 30 minute minimum journal

session, trust me you will love it.

5. Walk Outside – can be done any time, you’re getting steps and spilling all the tea.

6. Dance Class – can report that belly dancing is a hoot even just one time.

7. Do an online cooking class together – or go to a class if you are feeling extra inspired.

8. Spa day – obviously.

9. Mom and kid park session – I see these a lot. Let’s get intentional about them and choose the

mom before you choose the kid.

10. Swap party – everyone brings something to swap while also celebrating St. Gals Day!

We hope you will share your Gal holiday ideas with us too. oxox
